How common are they?

Genital warts are common. Each year in the United States, there are approximately 1 million new cases of genital warts.
After sexual contact with an infected person, genital warts may appear within weeks, months, or not at all. Because a person with genital HPV may not show any visible signs or symptoms, it is difficult to know whether you might have been exposed. That’s why it’s important to know about the connection between HPV and genital warts.
